Teen Driving Safety Program

BeaveRun Motorsports Complex announces the implementation of a teen driving safety program at BeaveRun beginning the summer of 2002.

The principals of BeaveRun MotorSports ComPlex, North America's premier training, testing and racing facility, located in Big Beaver Borough, has created an advanced car control training course designed especially for teen drivers.

This community service program will be conducted by trained instructors at BeaveRun each Friday during the summer of 2002, beginning on June 21st, and continuing through August 30th (with the exception of July 5th and August 16th). Each class will be limited to 25 students and will be conducted with six instructors. It will begin at 8:45 am and will run through 4:15 pm. The curriculum will include classroom instruction as well as car control exercises. Exercises will be conducted on BeaveRun's six-acre vehicle dynamics testing area, and will include proper braking, emergency reactions, turning, vehicle transitions, driver impairment, skid control and accident avoidance. Each student will receive individualized instruction. Automobiles and lunch will be provided, as well as a certificate of completion. The cost for each student is $300 and may be paid by credit card.

This course, already proven to save lives and reduce accidents, will enable drivers to experience car control and emergency situations in a controlled environment. Students will leave the course with much more knowledge about car control, how to react to unanticipated events and the many factors that impair driver awareness. In addition, all students will certainly enjoy the experience.

Registration Form. You may copy the form, complete it and forward it to BeaveRun at the address provided.

An informational meeting for the Teen Driving Safety Program is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21st at 7 pm at the Holiday Inn - Beaver Falls - Rt 18 at Turnpike Exit No.2.

Where is BeaveRun located?

BeaveRun is located 2 miles north of the Beaver Valley Exit of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Big Beaver Borough, just west of Koppel, PA. Take Rt. 18 north to Penndale road. Turn left to BeaveRun.

Will there be classroom instruction?

Yes, you will spend time in the classroom discussing the dynamics of car control. You will learn what keeps a car in control and why a car acts the way it does when you do certain things. You will learn about such terms as "threshold braking", "oversteer", and "understeer".

Will there be very much in car instruction?

Yes, you will spend about 1/2 of the day in our cars and observing others doing exercises.

What exercises will I be doing?

Some of the exercises you will be completing include the following: You will do braking exercises, where you will feel how the car behaves when you intentionally skid the car. You will also experience how much brake pressure to apply to achieve maximum braking. You will find out what to do if your car has left the road surface, in order to retain control. You will learn what it feels like when the car begins to skid and determine how to arrest skids. You will learn how to apply brakes and turn the car at the same time. You will learn how to execute emergency lane changes.

Will I get very much individualized attention?

Yes, we will limit class size to 25 students and will have 6 instructors at the site to coach each student until you complete each exercise successfully.

Will I be using my own car?

No, we will provide the cars for your use.

How should I dress?

Dress casually, but don't wear clothing that drags on the ground or is unduly baggy or loose.

Is this program safe for me to do?

Yes, the program is run on the state of the art six acre BeaveRun Vehicle Dynamics Area. This is the same area that tire manufacturers use for testing tires and suspension components. There is a great deal of run off room and all exercises are done with experienced instructors in the car. This is a controlled environment and is much safer than public streets.

Will I experience the effect of driving while impaired?

Yes, special exercises are designed to show you how much your abilities are reduced.
